buyersguideUsing the famous bubble icon where a hollow circle means not supported, a half-filled (target style in this guide) means planned feature and full dark bubble means supported, Brockmann & Company analyzes the availability of 30 features of ten solutions for enterprise mobile unified communications. To qualify, the solution had to deliver enterprise unified communications features (IP PBX features, instant messaging and the like) onto one or more styles and classes of mobile phone.

The resultant range and completeness of the solutions reviewed is surprising and impressive speaking volumes to the intensity of advances available in mobile communications for business, today.

The vendors that participated did not pay to participate.

Completed answers were received from Alcatel-Lucent, Avaya, CounterPath, Divitas, NEC, Nortel, OnRelay, RIM, Siemens and Tango Networks. Cisco was reviewed in the Market Landscape and declined to participate in the Buyer's Guide. Agito did not return our repeated communications inviting participation.

Vendors told us about their support for some 30 software features, several classes of mobile devices and device manufacturers or operating system vendors and specific support for a wide range of leading IP PBX products. Some vendors also included open source IP PBX code in the event of a greenfield deployment of only-mobile voice services.

This Buyer's Guide is complemented by the Market Landscape report for Mobile UC which summarizes the architectural approaches and overviews the players in this emerging marketplace. Brockmann & Company expects enormous growth in this application domain in the next five years as network, devices and application capabilities advance.
